The community we live in is a very affluent community. There are huge houses everywhere we look. Many children that attend my son’s school live in these grand houses.Once after a play date my son asked me why we do not live in the huge houses like his friends do? I replied that we should never compare ourselves to another. The grass will always look greener on the other side if we do. We need to be who God has asked us to be and be thankful for what He has blessed us with. We have to be good stewards of what God has given our family and at this present time our house is perfect for our current needs. God has given us a roof over our heads and taken care of our every need quite well.
During that same time frame we kept hearing sermon after sermon on “This world is not our home.” Our preacher mentioned our houses are only our tents, our home is in heaven. My son heard the same sermons that we did at church and when we came home after church, as he opened the door, he happily said, “Tent Sweet Tent.”
I often wonder if God blesses us more after we have been good stewards of what he has already blessed us with.

The thing is, when Luke is grown, he won't even wish he had ever lived in one of those houses. B/c the love that happened in his "tent" was deeper and greater than you could ever find in one of those grand houses.
It's amazing now that I'm grown how I can't remember if I had a lot of toys compared to my friends, if my house was nicer than those of my friends, or if everyone else wore more expensive clothes then me. I can only recall the wonderful memories of my sister and I playing soccer, my dad playing football with me, and my mom teaching me how to cook. How is that?? I know that the clothes, toys and house thing crossed my mind when I was growing up and probably even consumed me at times but now, it's just the time and energy that was invested in my life by those who loved me that matter.
Luke is such an amazing child. I want to sit with him and have a chat. I bet I would learn something profound!
You are doing an amzaing job as his mom, Tam. Teaching him what is important, yet making sure he questions what he believes...
